Announcement of new Sharon Rose Wig and Prosthesis “Salon”

The Illinois Chapter Wig and Prosthesis Bank has a wonderful new look and name! Y-ME has been providing wigs and prosthesis for women with limited financial resources for 20 years! Women who visit the local Illinois chapter are able to come to a beautiful, redesigned salon with a new name.

The Sharon Rose Wig and Prosthesis “Salon” is named after a woman who lost her breast and hair, to breast cancer. Sharon Rose Miller can uniquely identify with the women who need a wig and prosthesis since she is a young woman who has battled the disease for over 6 years. In addition to loosing her hair, she has had a lumpectomy, a mastectomy with reconstruction and a mastectomy with out reconstruction. Sharon Rose is a Y-ME hotline volunteer, a moderator for the Young Women’s Support Group. As a public speaker, she has been very dedicated in raising awareness about breast cancer and Y-ME services since the organization has made such and impact on her personal life and her ability to cope with the disease. Sharon has worked tirelessly to raise funds for the organization and the wig/prosthesis Salon, and as a painter, gives proceeds of the paintings to the organization.

Sharon Rose knows firsthand the devastation the disease can have on a woman’s femininity and confidence. Because of Y-ME’s commitment to maintaining a survivor’s dignity and privacy, the new salon has been designed with soft, feminine colors and features paintings done by Sharon Rose which symbolize a new beginning and personal growth. The woman will receive personal attention and a fitting done by a trained professional. She will receive a wig/prosthesis donated by a fellow survivor, or one of the several wig/prosthesis companies that support Y-ME. Please consider donating your wig/prosthesis to our “Salon” if you no longer need it, so we may help more survivors.

In addition, the woman will be able to talk with fellow survivors and receive informational pamphlets (printed in both English and Spanish) designed to help her empower herself with information. She will also receive a beautiful card with a pink rose stating, “Sharon Rose lost her hair and her breast, but not her spirit to breast cancer. We hope this wig/prosthesis will help you face this disease and know you are not alone. Your friends from Y-Me of Illinois."
